1/100 minute (or decimal) stopwatches were mainly used in industry. In industrial area, minute are divided into 100 units. Time measurements are easier to analyse, compare or convert into key performence indicators than classical minutes and seconds measurements. Mathematical operations are faster to calculate. Try to operate quickly those two additions 1.70mn + 3.80mn and 2mn25sec + 1mn55sec

Today industrial decimal stopwatches are still used but electronics technology has replaced mechanical movements.
